Something’s Fishy

kittens

When I first moved out of my house I really had nowhere to go and wound up living with my friend and her boyfriend. She was a vet technician and wound up bringing a momma cat and her newborn kittens home, which was fine. The kittens started moving around more and exploring, but they hadn’t been litter trained and would urinate and defecate along the perimeter of the living room. Not once did my roomie or her boyfriend clean it up.

To make matters worse, they had their own cat who they kept in their bedroom. Since they never cleaned the litter box, the cat started using their closet as a toilet. But it was always hard to figure out where the smell was coming from because of the inches of debris that covered their floor. Soon, the mess started spilling out into the living room and kitchen.

Pretty soon the whole apartment was destroyed. Having never done dishes, fruit flies were all over the kitchen. I had my own kitten and had to leave him closed in my bedroom constantly since he would bet lost amongst the filth. At one point, I asked a friend to stop in to watch my kitten while I was out of town. I was later told that she thought one of the animals had died because it smelled so bad inside the apartment.

My roommate was very offended that I never seemed to be home and wanted me to move out. Aside from rushing me and attempting to fight me, she had the audacity to blame the odor that had engulfed the apartment on my tiny 10 gallon fish tank.

I have heard way too many stories like this — people who either are vets or work with vets who don’t take care of their own pets. It makes no sense to me…

what amazes me is people who have cats, dogs or kids and who can barely take care of themselves. Grow the fuck up!!!
