Beware the Bathroom

40929-1

About four years ago, I sublet my apartment to a co-worker so I could move in with my boyfriend at the time. I was intending for her to finish out the remaining year of the lease. If things didn’t work out with my guy, I could move back in.

Of course, things didn’t work out but I had changed jobs and couldn’t afford to move back to my one bedroom place. I also (weirdly I thought) never received a lease renewal. So I ended up moving in with the same girl into a two-bedroom apartment.

The very first day we moved in she announced that she “broke the toilet.” I asked her if it was broken or clogged. “I don’t know” was her only response. She then proceeded to just sit her fat ass on the couch and eat chips while the horrendous smell seeped into the rest of the apartment. I stormed out, bought a plunger, handed it to her and told her to fix it. It was a great buy because it turned out she would plug the toilet on an almost daily basis. Occasionally, there would be droppings on the toilet seat - which she would leave behind for me to clean. Don’t even get me started about what was left on the toilet seat during that time of the month.

This girl also never bathed. She would do a quick wash of her privates (I assumed) and leave the washcloth hanging on the towel rack. The smell of this washcloth was unbearable. It hit you as soon as you walked in. She was also taking my checks for the cable and never paying the bill. She bounced rent checks and denied it, thinking I wouldn’t question it and split the $125 fee the landlord tacked on.

She left food rotting in the fridge for so long that it would turn black with mold – and would scream at me if I threw the stuff out. She would have binge eating sessions in her room and then haul out bags of garbage that she had stored in there. Her feet were covered in gross white splotches, which bothered me so much that I took to showering in flip flops. I started counting down my time with her by the number of menstrual cycles I had left to deal with. Oh the smell!

About a year after we moved apart, I received a summons saying I was being sued for over $4,000. She’d apparently stopped paying rent on my apartment that I had sublet her prior to our moving in together. No wonder I never got my lease renewal! She, of course, denied the non-payment. After I got my own lawyer and proved she was the one responsible she actually started paying it off all the while claiming that she had paid.

I will NEVER share an apartment or sublet EVER again!

Yes, she’s the one they’re referring to when someone asks, “Were you raised in a barn??”

That’s. Freakin. Nasty. You must be a good person for not throwing her poop, crotch droppings, funky washcloths, and so on in her bed. And it sounds like you never hit with anything heavy and blunt, You are a better man than I!
