Nobody cares about where on the fence you guys are. It’s just a story. Read it, enjoy it (or don’t) and move on. No one cares about your crappy opinions. I’m sick of rude people “calling bullshit” and being downright rude to the OP’s and having the gall to act righteous about it. I won’t be surprised when people stop posting stories on ANY of the MVW sites coz they just don’t seem to care about telling people to stop viciously tearing apart anything someone submits.

OP here, I was in a financial bind and none of my friends had room for me at the time. I only stayed there three months, and I did confront the room mate about her behavior, only to be shrieked at about how I am not allowed to tell her what to do because it was her lease. I began seeking out places to live while living there, but trying to find a good and cheap apartment in LA is very hard, not to mention everyone else in LA tries to find the same thing as you at the same time, it seems. As soon as I found a better place and had the financial stability to do so, I did leave. Also, I really do wish that the state of the apartment didn’t deteriorate so fast, but apparently this room mate was a master at making a mess in a small amount of time. To those of us who continuously clean up after ourselves, this seems like a strange and impossible feat, but until you see it first hand, I don’t think you understand the level of filth some people are willing to live in. The manager would have inspections, but you have to give two day notices before entering a unit, and by that time she would have everything cleaned and the cats at a friend’s apartment (cats weren’t allowed, which I came to find out) and after the inspection it would quickly degrade to abhorrent filth once more. I haven’t had a room mate since and have vowed not to, and live in my own nice, clean, gasoline free apartment.

i have to agree with michelle…in one case, a bad roommate situation happened because i didn’t do enough to just put a stop to it and the guy just took advantage of the situation. I admit i was a bit of an idiot, but i was young and in a financial bind. Now i live alone and I’m happy.

I don’t understand what was so “high horse” about my comment. This story is so extreme that it’s just too damn hard to believe the submitter and his/her other roommate did absolutely nothing. Yeah, both parties are usually idiots. Everyone knows that. But this situation is just too far out there.

Rawr, I think most of our “worst roommates” come about because we didn’t do what we could have done to alleviate the situation. My worst roommate is my worst because I didn’t speak up and he completely took advantage of the situation. I don’t have horrible roommates now that I see many of the pitfalls of living with others.

People really should get off their high horses when commenting — most worst roommates come about because BOTH were idiots. Great roommates don’t stick around for horrible stories to /continue/ happening.

Dog poop on the grass indicates that the owner of the dog is being responsible and taking their dog out to crap. Overflowing litter boxes don’t happen if the cat’s owner is being responsible.

I’m on the fence about calling bullshit on this one. Why not call the landlord and let them know Roommate 1 was such a damn pig? I’m pretty sure they would’ve liked to know and might’ve evicted them for shitting up their property. Or why move in in the first place? I’m pretty sure there are laws or ordinances or something about the place being a health hazard. I know it was the day they were supposed to move in, but I’d rather crash on a friend’s/parent’s couch (or hell, even sleep in my car) for a few days and get that sorted out than knowingly move in to, well, that.

people get cats because they don’t need to be walked, so they figure, just leave them to their litterbox…and then everyone else has to deal with it. I’ve had some pretty wacko roommates and probably it would sound bizarre…nothing surprises me.

So many stories involving crappy cat owners. Yuck. I find cats somewhat cute from afar, but I’d rather dodge dog poop on the grass any day than deal with an “overflowing litter box.”
