A Door Jam

After college, I lived with 4 guys who I had known in high school.
I had to leave for work in the morning at 5.45a.m. and they were usually just an hour into sleeping at that point. One morning, I came downstairs to leave and our front door was wide open. Because they have expensive music equipment, because I was the first line of defense in the morning if someone had walked in (and I’m a 5’2 petite girl), and because we lived in a really bad part of the city, I decided to leave them a note simply saying: “This door was open this morning, please try to remember to close it! Thanks!” I stuck it on the door and went off to work, thinking it was probably just a one time thing.
When I got home, I got yelled at by one of the guys because I put the note on the window part of the door. Apparently, anyone walking by could have read it and known we leave our door open. Yes, through the distorted glass, BACKWARDS they would have seen that the door was open this morning and therefore tried to break in.

Did it ever happen again?
I could understand this being a VWR story if you were always being yelled at. But one incident… eh, that’s kind of average, right? I had a horrible roommate who was always yelling at me for the most ridiculous shit, and when there was nothing she could find to yell at me for, she’d make up things to accuse me of.
I can very easily read backwards, as well as sideways, forwards with letters reversed (siht ekil) and just about any other way you can imagine. If you put it on the glass, yeah, you deserve to to be bit on the ass for it. Put it on the solid part of the door next time.
Normally I wouldn’t comment on something so old, but it begs to be said. Reading backwards is perfectly possible.
