Wandering Wife

I moved in with someone I met at work hoping to start saving money to buy my own place. It was an apartment with she and her husband. It was a little strange that she offered to take in a roommate when she was married, but it was a huge apartment so I didn’t think much of it. We lived there for about a year, but it wasn’t in a great neighborhood so we started looking at other places in nicer areas. We finally found a place we really liked and started to arrange to move in.
We moved in on a Wednesday and on Friday when we were still not even unpacked, she announced she just had to go to Vegas to visit her best friend who had gotten divorced six months earlier. I was pissed but mostly because her behavior had gotten really strange and she would have used any excuse to not help unpack. So she left me with her husband and we unpacked everything. She came back on Sunday night and again announced that she was taking a two week vacation to Michigan by herself, without said husband.
I spent most of those two weeks with other friends or with my family and didn’t think much of it. When I came home several days before she was supposed to arrive, her husband cornered me and wanted to know if I had been aware that when she had gone to “Vegas” she was actually little more than 20 miles away shacked up with a guy we worked with.
Long story short, a little more than three weeks after we had signed a one year lease, her husband moved out, she came home from Michigan and asked if this guy she was cheating on her husband with could move in. I said no, because I didn’t know this guy from Adam, but I came home the next day to find his stuff in our house. Furthermore, about two months after that she announced that she was pregnant and moving to Michigan to be with her family.
Oh and the best part, because the bills were in her name, I just gave her cash to pay my portion. On the day she moved out, I got in the mail shut off notices for all of our utilities because they hadn’t been paid in months.

She sounds like such a charmer. And I feel bad for the husband, too.
