Don’t Show Me Yours

bathrobe

Living on my own for the first time, I found two roommates to share a condo with on Craigslist. One was always at her boyfriend’s place, the other was one semester out of high school. I am friendly so we got along well at first. Then she (the teenaged one) started knocking on my door after she’d get off work (at 11.45 p.m.) and tell me about her boy drama while I was dozing off.

In the mornings, we had to get ready at the same time and shared a bathroom so we’d be in there together – one in the shower, the other brushing teeth, doing hair, etc. If I were in the shower, I would always dry off behind the curtain and put on my robe before stepping out. She, on the other hand, would get out, walk across the bathroom for her towel, bend over naked to dry her hair, and then walk around naked. She would ask my opinion on clothes to wear on dates and change clothes in front of me (and my friends) to ask which we preferred.

I finally told her that we needed boundaries. This was when she got really weird.

I had told her previously the exact make, model, color, and interior of a kind of car I wanted. I wasn’t around much for the following weeks and when I saw her again, she showed me her new car – exactly what I had described. I was finally fed up and we all decided to leave at the end of the lease. Before we moved, she called the landlord and told her everything that was damaged before we could clean and fix the place up.

You “finally” told her that you needed boundaries. Why didn’t you tell her right away? She obviously thought you didn’t mind her behavior, especially since you were okay with sharing the bathroom during shower time, which seems pretty unusual for roommates who aren’t close friends.

And why did it bother you so much that she bought the kind of car you wanted? I don’t get it.

Yeah, I agree. This chick seems kind of strange, but not the kind of thing that really belongs here.

Seems like there’s a lot missing from this story….

I submitted this story so I’ll expand a little:

There IS a lot missing from this story. I emailed my submission and wasn’t sure if I would have a chance to say more than 200 words about the crazy girl.

I didn’t set bathroom boundaries right away because after living in a dorm in college for 4 years, I never had a problem with sharing a bathroom with strangers because nothing like this ever happened. We left the house at the same time each morning and at first it wasn’t an issue.

She would do a couple of loads of laundry each day, never cleaning out the lint trap in the dryer. One day she called me at work freaking out because the excess lint had caught fire (all her fault – I didn’t do laundry in that house) and we were lucky to even still have a place to live.

She would invite her old boyfriends to live with us for weeks at a time. One winner was a military guy who had just gotten back from Iraq. He would drink cases of beer by himself and pass out sitting up on her bed, usually peeing all over the place on his way there. If he got sick off his excessive drinking, he would casually walk outside and puke on our doorstep, then come back in like nothing happened. I always kept my bedroom door locked because these guys were extremely creepy. This didn’t matter the day he found a way to break into the house (she forgot to give him a key) by climbing up my balcony and through my room.

Overall she was a TERRIBLE roommate, and a terrible person. I know this isn’t the worst roommate on this blog… but it was definitely my worst roommate story.

This article sounds like it was written by a supreme bitch.

The expansion does make more sense, then.

ok the other details make more sense…i was wondering how you got from her walking around naked to buying the car and then you’re fed up.
She sounds like she was really messed up and immature…terrible person i don’t know. She obviously had a thing for losers.

Why didn’t you lead with the drunken head-case that pukes on your doorstep instead of complaining about her nudity?

The movies we could make based on Craigslist…

It sounds like she had low self-esteem and was trying to get you to like her. Still a bad roommate.
