You should have just told the landlord "no, mind your own business, my husband will be over later, read our tenant agreement, and if you talk to me like this again or try to stop my husband from entering a property that is contractually mine for the time being, we'll have to get the police involved to put you in your place. Thanks byyyyyye!"

So did you pass your exams? You'd be wise to be a better lawyer than your roommate, at least. Sounds like she's already got the lying part of being a lawyer mastered (got the landlord to scream at you forbidding your husband from coming, dog threatening).

Ah, lawyers...
The defense rests.

Yeah, most of the time I tend to think "the truth is in the middle", but this time, I get the impression the writer's roommate really was pretty messed up and unpleasant.

Oh I always see it as "the truth is in the middle" but regardless, the roommate sounds ridiculous.

Because we're only getting one side of the story and stuff always ends up getting left out of these submissions because there's just no way to fit every single little detail into these blog posts. It's just the internet, don't think so hard about it.

I vote the differrence-splitting 'the truth's probably somewhere in the middle'. Why trust one girl and not the other? I'm betting she wasn't all that chuffed about the dog and may have... expressed this. I imagine the boyfriend and the roommate may not have not on particularly well (perhaps because of the other issues) and no doubt there were other niggling issues as there inevitably are when people live in close proximity, but why give credence that the flatmate is a totally mad bitch (as might be the case) without due consideration that there might be a case for the blame being more evenly distributed. Why would the flatmate ban the boyfriend from coming over during exams? Because she's an out-and-out mentalist? Doesn't it seem more plausible that they're just a bit... er... loud or something? Doesn't this sort of explanation seem more in keeping with the kind of person whose response would be 'who are you to tell me what I can and can't do; I pay rent so I can do what I like'.
