No Regular Solution

contacts my very worst roommate

I needed a roommate so I looked on Craigslist. I found J, a girl that seemed normal and I checked her through the courts, met her current roommates and friends and she checked out. All this clearly was not sufficient. She moved her boyfriend in the very day she moved in. She had never met him before as this was an online relationship. He didn’t have a job and was there 24/7. After a month, I told J that I would not pay half the rent or bills if he was there all the time. She got incredibly angry and threatened to beat me up. Up to this point, we had been sharing cookware (all mine) so I told her she wasn’t allowed to anymore since I was paying half of the bills when I had two roommates. She flipped out and took everything of hers away–the shower curtain, toilet paper, paper towels (that I had paid for initially). Everything. It was unbearable living there because she would often threaten to harm me. The worst part happened one day when I tried putting in my contacts with my solution and it burned. I opened the solution and it was dark brownish-yellow and smelled like urine. She peed in my contact solution bottle. I threw everything away that she might have contaminated and filed a restraining order. I actually ended up suing her on a TV judge show—and won!

Wow, just… wow. What court show?

Yes – what show? I love the fake court shows…huge guilty pleasure.

Wow that’s insane…pretty hard for anyone to say “you brought it upon yourself” when you even checked her for a criminal record (very thorough!). Did you just have to buy a new shower curtain? Some people are so petty.
Also, I frigging hate it when people think their sig. other can just basically stay there every night and be an unofficial roommate and even help themself to other people’s food but not contribute anything….I mean what is that?

It was a little petty to tell her she couldn’t use your cookware because her boyfriend was living there (which he, I totally agree shouldn’t have been) but she pushed it into crazy-zone pretty fast.

even checking out someone through the courts, you still cant’ find out if they’re nuts. And you won’t know about boyfriends moving in. WUWT anyways? It does seem like nearly every story here has the ‘boyfriend who came to stay and never leave’. Don’t these guys have homes of their own?

It was Judge Joe Brown. It aired December 2008. I know taking away the cooking stuff was petty but it was more because they’d use them and leave them in the sink filthy for me to clean later. I bought the most obnoxious shower curtain I could find which was also petty but damn, it felt good! I only ended up living with her for 5 months because of the restraining order so that was nice! All in all, she was one of the crazier people I’ve ever met!

That’s ridiculous! For some reason when you mentioned the 2nd time about her threatening to harm you I had a feeling you would get a restraining order but I had no idea it would be because of that. Geez!

I wish I had a link to the episode on youtube or something but I can’t find it anywhere. One of the other things about her (you only have 200 words to type your story so I had to shorten it!) was that she was a heavy girl and would run around in tight, short shorts and a tight tank top with no bra. I had a party once and she came stomping down the stairs wearing that and my friends about died laughing. It was fantastic! It was awesome how JJB berated her for basically being a stupid bitch. Loved it!

Judge Joe Brown doesn’t suffer fools lightly. I like him, though my 2 favorites are Judge Judy & Judge Milian.

Craigslist: You’re crazy if you go there for anything other than the missed connections.

Kate-
I don’t really think it’s petty. OP paid for the cookware, she can decide who gets to use it. The roommate, if she needs cookware, should just buy her own; there’s no way she’s entitled to use something that isn’t hers. Plus, cookware can be pretty expensive, and if the OP’s roommate is anything like mine (who uses all my cookware in the most careless and abusive manner and damages everything), I can doubly understand her frustration.
Plus, the OP is basically paying half the rent while two people pay a quarter of it each and use all of her stuff? Pretty unfair if you ask me.

Yeah, I’m with Jolly and OP, I’ve asked my housemates to stop my cookware! It’s just irratating when you come back to an empty house and dirty dishes when you have an empty belly!

Well, why didn’t you talk to her about bringing in other people right at the start? (before her BF moved in, or right after he moved in?)

WOW, the TV judge show part totally made it for me, I would LOVE to see the episode, well done OP !!

that’s gross, she peed in your contact lense solution? didn’t you smell it? what a psycho

ChristyJanuary 20th, 2011 at 11:35 pm

Sorry but how did you not realize she’d peed in your contact solution? I’m pretty much blind without correction, but I can still tell the difference between clear contact solution and dark brownish-yellow pee!

thank goodness you won :)
