Three Months Too Long

I found this posting that seemed too good to be true. It was five minutes from my work, allowed pets and it was $100 under my budget. I met the guy who has posted the listing and he seemed pretty decent. He was a student and it sounded like it would be a quiet house, with not much partying going on. The first month went fine, with only minor incidents. However, as time progressed, things got really bad. As I got to know my fellow housemates, the drama just seemed to explode. One of the housemates was a girl who worked as a personal trainer, but turned out to be doing some stripping on the side. I normally wouldn’t be bothered by that, but she was so inconsiderate of everyone else that I lost any respect for her. She had a cat that she took very poor care of. I have two cats of my own and she blamed my cat for peeing all over the place, even though it was her cat. She never cleaned its litter box and it took her several weeks to take it into to vet to get care for a urinary tract infection.

I work with animals for a living and it pained me to see this. She would also be gone for four days out of the week due to her stripping job and the cat would be left in her room, without food or water. I would sneak into her room to take care of it and let it out of her hell-hole of a room. She would repeatedly clog the toilet and wouldn’t unclog it. She wouldn’t buy toilet paper, even though we had made it perfectly clear we would take turns supplying such communal items. She even wiped her ass on my hand towel, denied it and then blamed it on me because I had left it out (hanging on the towel rod). The entire time I lived there, I saw her do dishes once, even though she probably used the most dishes out of anyone.

This same girl also decided to take in another girl she “worked” with, telling us that it would only be a few weeks. This girl would hog the bathroom for hours, blasted awful music at 3am on a Tuesday and she would leave used pregnancy tests on the kitchen counter. After leaving the bathroom, the tub would be filled with brownish water and tons of floating little curly hairs. Yum yum. I left three months into a year lease. The last I heard, the girl who was only supposed to be there for a few weeks had moved into my old room with a guy she’d been dating for three weeks.

Dude… GROSS. *flails around*

“I’m not bothered by strippers, BUT she was inconsiderate”

Translation = I’m bothered by strippers. See, for example, I’m not racist but …

Nice story though. Tell me more about her clogging the toilet.

“After leaving the bathroom, the tub would be filled with brownish water and tons of floating little curly hairs. Yum yum.”

I puked a little in my mouth after reading that.

I don’t think she can hear us from her high horse, RestoftheStory. The repeated unnecessary references to her being a stripper along with the snarky quotes around the word “work” (is stripping not a job? Moral qualms or not, it’s the same level of physical activity as any other dancer). She sounds gross and unkempt and awful for her treatment of the cat, don’t get me wrong, but you don’t really sound like a prize either.

@ admins – that’s quite the picture.

Well geez….I mean, that’s what hand towels are for, right? Ass towels, hand towels, same thing.

That was one of my major peeves of the shitty roommates I’ve had…the ol’ “clog the toilet and slink away” trick. In my case the main culprit was someone who was almost 30 and I have to assume she was so sheltered growing up that her Mommy never showed her how to use a plunger (probably wiped her ass for her with special ass towels too).

This is a good story but I agree with other posters about the stripper=bad inference…I just find it odd when people say that X wouldn’t bother them BUT because Y and Z bother them, X is worth mentioning too. I mean I know most people would be leery of living with a stripper because of the views we hold about sex work, but I think the story was pretty grossie without it!

It doesn’t matter what she did for a living. She sounds like a disgusting, inconsiderate person. Using someone’s towel to wipe their ass, seriously? And then blaming the person for leaving the towel out? Who the hell does that? I would’ve taken that towel out and burned it. Good for the OP though for getting out of there before things could get any worse, like the other stripper moving in her “boyfriend”. I can only imagine how much worse that made things after the OP moved out.

hellcatJune 16th, 2010 at 7:12 pm

TMS – just so we’re clear, I agree that she sounded absolutely awful and disgusting. I just didn’t like that the OP kept mentioning that she was a stripper as if that were equally as disgusting as the fact that she used hand towels to wipe her ass – like “she kicked cats, murdered babies and pushed blind old ladies into the street, AND she was a stripper, too.”

Frau BlucherJune 16th, 2010 at 8:58 pm

to be fair, you don’t want to just eliminate someone as a roommate who works as a stripper. I admit that I would be reluctant and not because I think i’m superior… maybe the stripper would be a lovely roommate. But in the environment where they work they come in contact with less than desirable people. These people can end up having access to your house. I am not sure I’d want to risk that.
As for the poster, it sounds like she was giving this girl the benefit of the doubt and ended up rather suprised at just how disgusting this girl was. Stripper or NUN, you don’t treat your pets that way and use a HAND TOWEL as toilet paper. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEW.

huh?June 17th, 2010 at 7:40 am

OP- so if the other girl moved into your room, I take it you didn’t sublet your room to anyone? So did you continue to pay for the remaining nine months until the lease was up even though you weren’t living there?

PandaJune 17th, 2010 at 8:17 am

I really read this as “I don’t have a problem with strippers, but this specific person (who happens to be a stripper) is really terrible and annoying, and I have a problem with them.” I didn’t really get the impression that the OP ever said she dislike her roommate specifically because she took her clothes off for a living. Yeah, maybe it could have been phrased better, but that’s not really the point.

hellcatJune 17th, 2010 at 10:08 am

Fair enough Frau, as long as you’d feel the same about living with a cop, parole officer, or FBI psychiatrist.

Frau BlucherJune 17th, 2010 at 10:29 pm

Not much chance of that… but would an FBI psychiatrist bring home serial killers or would a parole officer socialize with parolees? It’s a bit different….
however, let’s face it. You can live with an investment banker and they can turn out to be wackjob with loser friends. There’s no way to be sure, but you can take into account someone’s lifestyle and occupation if you’re going to live with them.

TMSJune 18th, 2010 at 6:07 am

@hellcat: I wasn’t criticizing you or anyone else for her mention of this roommate being a stripper. It just seemed to be the main topic in the responses. I think Frau summed it up best though “You can live with an investment banker and they can turn out to be wackjob with loser friends.”
I wouldn’t want to live with someone like that no matter what they did for a living.

hellcatJune 18th, 2010 at 11:14 am

No, she (the roommate) sounds like a heinous bitch, and disgusting and an animal abuser to boot. Seriously, that’s some REAL hygiene issues, right there. I agree. I just felt like the stripping thing was thrown in as just another awful thing about her, when I don’t think it should – I’m sure not all strippers are shitty roommates. If that wasn’t OP’s intent or feeling about it, then I apologize for misreading.

But Frau – ok, but would you live with a bartender? A liquor store clerk? I don’t think a stripper’s any more likely to bring home club patrons as either of those people are. Unless she’s a hooker, not a stripper – and that’s a whole other game.

hellcatJune 18th, 2010 at 11:15 am

*”when i don’t think it should HAVE BEEN.” Sentence-finishing fail.

Frau BlucherJune 19th, 2010 at 5:09 am

i really don’t know hellcat…each individual case is different.

claireJune 20th, 2010 at 1:59 am

hellcatJune – um, maybe things are different in the states, but i worked in a brothel for 2 years or so and i NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS would’ve let a client into my home. i don’t understand how a hooker and a stripper are sooooo different honestly… the only reason i was a bad housemate when i was working in the industry was that i had nothing to do all day and only had to work a couple of nights a week at my own whimsy so i used to sit around the house smoking pot out of boredom the rest of the time.
now i work & study full time and don’t have the time or inclination to be a bad housemate/smoke weed :P

woah, ramble.

i think the OP judged her a little for the stripper thing in conjunction with everything else. i don’t know. hell, i judge people in the industry a tiny amount now after 6 months out of it.

Frau BlucherJune 20th, 2010 at 11:44 am

claire, and while I am sure you are a lovely person, I am not sure i would have wanted you as a roommate during that brothel period. No judgement of your profession, live and let live etc, but I would have been a bit leery of the people you associated with…as friend ok, hang out ok….but I’ve had enough troublesome roommates to make an assessment.

Of course it’s moot, I will never have a roommate again!!!

ghgswJune 21st, 2010 at 9:35 am

So did you take the cat with you when you moved out?

AmmySeptember 7th, 2010 at 6:47 am

I’m with ghgsw, totally would have rescused the poor kitty.
